Jason F. Mathers, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist

Dr. Mathers is a licensed psychologist with a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Purdue University and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Truman State University. He has over 20 years of experience working in the mental health field. In the course of his career, he has worked with individuals ranging in age from 5 to 80 within various settings, including university counseling centers, outpatient mental health clinics, an adult substance abuse treatment facility, and an alternative school for boys. Dr. Mathers joined Clarkson Counseling in 2005, after completing his one-year doctoral internship at the Missouri Health Sciences Psychology Consortium, where he worked within the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veteran’s Hospital in Columbia, MO, providing services to veterans and their spouses and gaining experiences in crisis management, outpatient mental health care, inpatient treatment, and substance abuse treatment.

Dr. Mathers engages his clients with an interpersonal/cognitive-behavioral approach, particularly emphasizing relationships (i.e., personal, professional, etc.); the triad of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors; and the beliefs and perceptions individuals hold of themselves, others, and the world around them. He enjoys working primarily with older adolescents, adults, and couples struggling with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, adjustment issues, relational concerns, and other emotional and psychological problems.
